SHAH ALAM, Feb 14 — Malaysian women’s doubles player M Thinaah has called upon sports lovers in Selangor to come and watch the 2022 Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) at the Setia City Convention Centre here starting tomorrow.
She said as the host, the presence of supporters from the state will give additional motivation to the players to perform better.
“It gives confidence to the players on the court. I urge all to come and support us.
“We need the support from each of you,” she said in a video shared on the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Facebook page.
Thinaah said all the players were ready and will go all out in every match during the game.
“We have done our best during training and all my teammates are excited to fight in this championships,” she said.
Selangor is the host for the 2022 BATC for the first time and the six days tournament starts February 15 to 20 with the coordination by the Selangor State Sports Council in cooperation with BAM.
Aside from Malaysia, other countries that have confirmed their participation are Indonesia, India, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Kazakhstan.
Through the draw on February 8, the national men’s squad is in Group B with Singapore, Japan and Kazakhstan while Group A is lined up with Indonesia, India, South Korea and Hong Kong.
Meanwhile, the national women’s team was drawn in Group Y along with India and Japan.
