SHAH ALAM, Feb 27 — Some 800 fresh chicken provided by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) were fully sold out to residents in the Batu Tiga state constituency today.

The programme, which took place at the Seksyen 18 business site next to the Al-Hidayah Mosque, is an initiative by the constituency’s representative Rodziah Ismail, who provide RM5 coupons to the first 500 customers.

Programme director Hamdan Harun said the public’s reception was stronger than anticipated when shoppers began queuing as early as 8am, an hour before the sale began.

“Despite cloudy weather and a light drizzle, visitors did not give up and were willing to wait so they could purchase this basic good.

“We thank representative Rodziah for providing the coupons to buyers, it is pleasing to have both chicken on sale for affordable prices and be given coupons as well,” he told SelangorKini.

The state government implemented the initiative to sell standard chicken with a ceiling price of RM8 per kilogramme, via the Chicken and Egg Price Intervention programme which began on February 7, to reduce the burden of increased food prices.

The programme involves the sale of 50,000 chickens with a RM1 million fund, extended statewide after an enthusiastic response from the public.
