Ikon Agro: Participants use agri-tech, in sync with smart state agenda

SHAH ALAM, Feb 8 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin has commended participants of Ikon Agro Selangor 2021 who utilised technology in their agriculture ventures.

He said the efforts shown by participants of the programme was in line with Selangor’s aim to become a Smart State.

“Every year we will seek to identify agropreneurs who can be nominated and it is great that smart agriculture has become one of the criteria in the (selection of) participants.

“The usage of smart technology by the participants has clearly helped in increasing their crop yields and also in line with the state’s ambition to make Selangor a Smart State,” he said.

Amirudin said this after handing out the awards to the winners of the Ikon Agro Selangor 2021 at Selangor Agriculture Development Corporation (PKPS) Dewan Orkid here last night.

He said the selected icons will serve as small ambassadors for the agriculture sector in the state as well as act as guides for new agropreneur entering the agriculture industry.

“We need to re-educate the new farmers so that smart technology becomes one of the best methods for agriculture in Selangor,” he said

Three agropreneurs were announced as Ikon Agro Selangor 2021 last night.

The winners are prawn agropreneur Siti Nurul Aishah Zakariah, Sam Chia (dragon fruit) and Peggy Cheng (mushroom).

They each received cash prize and agro input assistance worth RM10,000, as well as trophies handed out by the Menteri Besar.

The candidates were evaluated based on their use of modern technology and production output, which accounts for 70 per cent of the marks, while the remaining 30  were determined via video votes polled on YouTube.

Ikon Agro Selangor aimed at providing competitive guidance to new entrepreneurs in agriculture, as well as turning them into mini-ambassadors for the state.
