Kisona keeps spirits up for better performance against India in 2022 BATC match tomorrow

SHAH ALAM, Feb 15 — National women’s singles player S. Kisona is hoping she will be able to be in control in the court, during her second group stage match against India tomorrow for the 2022 Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC)

The 24-year old Seremban native said the wind conditions in the court was the cause of her 12-21, 16-21 defeat at the hands of Japanese player Nidaira Natsuki, in the opening action of BATC’s Group Y.

Kisona admitted the 38-minute duration of the match was interesting throughout, but that Nidaira, who is ranked as 72nd in the world was clearly more masterful in the court.

“I notice fewer self-mistakes today, but the wind conditions were too strong and I was not accustomed to that. My opponent had better control of the wind than me.

“In many instances, the shuttlecock flew out to the back. If I had reduced (the number of times) sending the shuttlecock backwards, I could have possibly won the match. So I hope I will be able to do better compared to today,” she told reporters at the Setia City Convention Center earlier today.

Kisona, who is raked 64th in the world, said the absence of doubles player M. Thinaah, who tested positive for Covid-19, did not dampen the spirit of the national women’s squad in doing their best.
