SHAH ALAM, Feb 12 — The public can buy standard chicken at RM8 per kilogramme (kg) through the Ehsan Food Prices Intervention Programme from Lori Ehsan grocery truck starting February 14.

Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) chief executive officer Dr Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi said the offer is until March 30 and will cover all districts in Selangor starting from Kuang and Rawang.

He said aside from selling chicken at lower than ceiling price, PKPS’s Lori Ehsan will sell other fresh produce such as chicken eggs, fruits and vegetables.

“Lori Ehsan will travel to each parliamentary and state constituency with the cooperation of local councils,” he said when contacted today.

Meanwhile, he said a total of 2,186 chickens had been sold through the intervention programme at Selangor Wholesale Market and Wisma PKPS as of yesterday.

“Buyers need not worry because there is a sufficient supply of chicken in both locations. We estimated that 500 chickens are provided every day for buyers,” he said.

On February 5, the Selangor government, through PKPS, began implementing the Ehsan Food Prices Intervention Programme by fixing the maximum retail price for standard chicken at RM8 per kg as part of efforts to address the current surge in food prices.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the initiative with a total allocation of RM1 million will be extended to other state and parliamentary constituencies should it receive a good response from the public.
