MetMalaysia: Thunderstorms, heavy rain in Sepang as parts of country to experience similar weather

SHAH ALAM, Feb 27 — Sepang is expected to experience heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms later this evening, as the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a strong weather warning for a number of areas and states in the country.

“Warnings are issued whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur in excess of an hour.

“A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release,” it said in a Facebook post.

Asides from Sepang, other states and areas include Pahang (Temerloh, Maran, Bera, Pekan and Rompin) Negeri Sembilan (Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau), Melaka, and Mersing in Johor.

In Sarawak, the affected areas include Sarikei (Pakan and Julau) Sibu (Kanowit and Selangau) Kapit (Song and Kapit) Bintulu (Tatau and Sebauh) Miri (Beluru, Telang Usan and Marudi) and Limbang.

Sabah will similarly see Sandakan (Tongod, Kinabatangan and Sandakan) affected. All the aforementioned areas will experience heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms until 11pm tonight.
