MPSepang to maintain large trees, avoid unwanted incidents

By Zareef Muzammil

SEPANG, Feb 28 — The Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) will perform routine maintenance of big trees in areas under its purview to prevent unforeseen incidents around trees.

Its president Dato’ Abd Hamid Hussain said the matter will be reviewed and has to take into account the location of replanted trees.

“If we do not have a choice, we would have to get rid of the trees that are risky. But if we can save it, we would conserve it as the matter is managed by two authorities, the local council and the Public Works Department (JKR).

“There is agricultural land whose trees are bordered by JKR road here in Sepang,” he said when met at a mangrove tree planting programme in Sungai Sepang Besar, Pantai Pasir Putih, here yesterday.

On February 21, some 20 vehicles parked in parking lots in the Cyber Valley area were damaged by large trees that had fallen due to strong winds and heavy rain.

The 5pm incident caused a big tree to suddenly fall onto several cars parked in the parking lot. However, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
