Nearly two mln SSP users, close to a thousand tonnes of paper saved

SHAH ALAM, Feb 11 — Close to four years after its launch, the Smart Selangor Parking (SSP) app continues to be the premier parking app in the country.

State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said SSP has gained more users since digital parking payment through the app, developed by the Smart Selangor Delivery Unit, began to be fully enforced on January 3 this year.

“As of February 10, the number of users registered with the digital parking payment system has reached 1.89 million.

“Similarly parking payments made through SSP has helped to save approximately 981,159 kg of papers,” he said.

Based on the sheer number of users, Ng said he believes SSP is still the most popular parking app in Malaysia.

He added both numbers were calculated from the time when the app was launched in July 2018 to yesterday.

Ng said SSP currently covers 10 local councils in the state, except for Sabak Bernam and Hulu Selangor, which have yet to enforce on-street parking payments.

On March 19 last year, the councillor told the media that 1.5 million users have registered with SSP, and the app has saved 634,994 kg of paper.

From January 3 this year, the state government abolished the on-street parking fees using coin machines or scratch-and-display manual coupons and enforced e-coupons through the SSP app, which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or from the Google Play Store.

However, the public is allowed to finish up the scratch-and-display manual coupons they had purchased beforehand, by March 31.

With the app, users only have to fill in their car registration number and pay based on the parking period.

Top-up credits for the app can also be purchased at convenience stores such as 7-Eleven, 99 Speedmart and KK Mart.

For the general public who do not own a smartphone or SSP app, physical e-coupon agents will be available as an alternative.
