No more coupon purchases at local councils with Selangor’s digital parking system

SHAH ALAM, Feb 18 — The digital parking system via the Smart Selangor Parking (SSP) application has helped ease the process for many users as they are no longer required to buy scratch-off coupons at respective local authorities.

Ng Sze Han said the digital method is simpler since it is not limited to the local councils where the parking bays are located.

“For example, the physical scratch-off coupons are issued according to each local authority. So, if a person lives in Sepang but works in Ampang Jaya, he would need to have different sets of scratch-off coupons.

“This forms a wastage of paper, and it is a hassle for the users as they would need to collect a variety of coupons,” he told SelangorKini.

Ng said since the SSP was enforced, the state government has saved paper consumption by 981,159 kilogrammes, reaching almost 1,000 tonnes.

“Through the local councils and the Smart Selangor Delivery Unit (SSDU), the Selangor government will hold various awareness campaigns to attract more people to download the application,” he said.

As of February 10, the SSP application, which was developed by SSDU, has recorded a total of 1.89 million downloads involving ten local authorities, namely:

– Shah Alam City Council
– Petaling Jaya City Council
– Subang Jaya City Council
– Klang Municipal Council
– Kuala Langat Municipal Council
– Ampang Jaya Municipal Council
– Kajang Municipal Council
– Sepang Municipal Council
– Kuala Selangor Municipal Council
– Selayang Municipal Council
