SHAH ALAM, Feb 3 — Selangor recorded 1,592 road accidents during Op Selamat 17 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year holiday period.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said the number of accidents has dropped by 31.2 per cent or a decrease of 721 cases from the 2,313 accidents recorded during the same period in the previous year.

He said out of the total figure, 1,565 accidents had not resulted in death or injuries, with 15 cases to have caused light injuries and 10 of them have been fatal.

“A survey is carried out daily in the hot spot areas, and we keep an extra watch on it. So far, eight locations have been identified,” he told SelangorKini when contacted.

Arjunaidi said a total of 300 police officers are on duty during Op Selamat, which runs for ten days beginning January 28.

“We would like to remind the road users to abide by the law and always be mindful of others to prevent accidents,” he added.
