SHAH ALAM, Feb 4 — The second phase of the post-flood cleanup operations currently being carried out by KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) throughout Selangor has reached 70 per cent.

Its managing director Ramli Mohd Tahir predicted the process of clearing out clogged drains and ditches in all flood-affected areas to be completed by the end of March.

“The cleanup work takes quite a long time because we have to handle the bulk waste discarded by the residents. Insya Allah (God willing), it will be over by the end of March.

“We hoped the residents remain patient and give their full cooperation,” he said when contacted.

KDEBWM, a subsidiary company of the state government that fully-manages domestic waste collection, has been endeavouring to clear flood-affected areas since December 20 last year in stages.

Approximately 78,000 metric tonnes of bulk waste have been cleared, with cooperation from the local authorities and other agencies, which fully concluded on January 7.

Starting on January 8, the company has been carrying out the second phase of the cleanup operations, focusing on decontamination and clearing out clogged drains and ditches, using effective microbiology technology.
