Selangor step up efforts for economic recovery after pandemic, floods

SHAH ALAM, Feb 2 — Selangor will speed up the efforts for its economic recovery this year after last year’s Covid-19 pandemic and floods disaster.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this is to ensure the state continues to stay on track towards strong economic development.

“This year, the government will accelerate the economic recovery process after the floods and pandemic, in order to drive development to ensure that the state continues to strengthen itself a centre for sustainable economic growth in Malaysia and the Asian region.

“I also wish a Happy Chinese New Year to all who celebrate this festival both in Malaysia and Selangor,” he said.

Amirudin said this during the 2022 Selangor Chinese New Year virtual celebration that was broadcast live on his Mandarin Facebook page @ami.mbselangor last night.

The more than 90-minutes programme showcased 10 performances that include singing, dancing and cultural performances, performed by 55 local artists as well as short CNY greetings from state executive councillors.

Similar to last year’s edition, this year’s Selangor CNY celebration was held online due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The programme also gave a chance for viewers regardless of their race, a chance to win ang pows worth a total of RM10,000, by writing creative wishes in multiple languages.

Among the programme’s highlights included classical festive songs by Chow Kam Leong, Chang Sang Teck and Lee Elaine, a lion dance by the Hong Jing Lion Dance Association of Selangor, a dance performance by Dua Space Dance Theatre, an a capella performance of festive songs by Colour of Voices, and a guzheng (plucked zither) performance by Sara Heng.

Other highlights include a Chinese drums performance by Hands Percussion, an electronic guzheng and LED diabolo performance by Sara Heng and the DiAbolution group, a performance by Lim Wen Suen, a performance by Gaston Pong & JE Pong, and a Chinese New Year speech by members of the Selangor state government meeting council.
