PUTRAJAYA, Feb 11 — The National Water Services Commission (SPAN) has issued a set of guidelines known as Uniform Technical Guidelines For The Design Of Water Treatment Plants And Related Water Supply System Components, as a reference for the design and construction of water supply systems in the country.

SPAN chairman Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli said under the Water Services Industry Act 2006 (Act 655), the commission has been given the authority to develop guidelines as a reference for water services industry players.

“The guidelines provide a complete reference for the construction of a more efficient and systematic water supply system as well as equipped with good safety features and the latest technology,” he said.

He said it was an offence under Section 45 of Act 655 if the construction of a water supply system did not comply with the plans and specifications that had been set.

The individual who commits the offence shall, upon conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding RM500,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or both, and shall alter the water supply system so as to comply with the approved plans and specifications.
