Almost RM6 mln spent to build PJKita@Sri Damansara Market

DAMANSARA, March 26 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has spent almost RM6 million to build the PJKita@Sri Damansara Market for residents in the area.

Mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said it is the first market in the district to have a modern and comprehensive design with user-friendly features including for the person-with-disabilities (OKU).

He said the arrangement of stalls is also done systematically with the separation between premises selling halal and non-halal goods.

“The building is also equipped with a rainwater collection system and grease trap so that waste can be managed better and not dumped into drains.

“The market also has a recycling centre to encourage the circular economy among traders and residents,” he said at the opening ceremony officiated by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari yesterday.

Mohamad Azhan said the market, which began construction in August 2018, housed 48 wet and retail stalls, 18 food courts stalls, nine multi-purpose stalls and an MBPJ office.

“As the traders here have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, we have decided to exempt rent for three months starting this April to ease their burden.

“This year, we also plan to develop two entrepreneur complexes involving a cost of RM4 million apart from upgrading the PJS 2D Market and the PJS 6/15 D’Selera Stalls,” he said.
