Landslide: Pangsapuri Teratai cliff repair work finishes next month

By Zareef Muzammil

GOMBAK, March 6 — The cliff repair works at Pangsapuri Teratai in Bandar Baru Selayang, which collapsed due to heavy rainfall in December last year is expected to be done by this coming April.

Gombak District Disaster Management Committee chairman Nor Azlina Abdul Aziz said the contractor appointed by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) is hard at work strengthening the cliffside.

However the Mineral and Geoscience Department (JMG) will evaluate the structure once stabilisation work is complete, before allowing residents to return to their respective homes.

“We are trying to expedite the cliffside’s stabilisation process, and InsyaAllah by the end of April it will be at 100 per cent.

“After that JMG will be called to investigate if there is any potential movement or otherwise. If all is safe and in order, residents will be able to re-enter the apartment,” she said during the Sunathon Perdana Selangor programme for the Gombak level at Masjid Jamek Al Amaniah Batu Caves earlier today.

Also in attendance was Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib and Gombak Setia state constituency coordinator Abdul Rahim Kasdi.

Meanwhile Nor Azlina said Dewan Sri Siantan, which was turned into a temporary evacuation centre, can only accommodate several affected families at this time, whereas the others are renting locations elsewhere or boarding with relatives.

Pangsapuri Teratai is among six critical locations under MPS’ jurisdiction which require immediate repairs due to the collapsed cliffside as a result of the heavy rains on December 18 last year.

The state government provided RM1,000 to each affected family via the Selangor Bangkit initiative, to the apartment’s residents who were forced to vacate the premises.

The same amount was also provided by the Federal government via the Bantuan Wang Ihsan initiative.
