PUCHONG, March 8 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has made it mandatory for Ramadan bazaar traders under its jurisdiction to fully utilise cashless transactions.
Mayor Datuk Johary Anuar said the usage of e-wallets is meant to reduce physical contact and thus curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“MBSJ will conduct checks and monitoring to ensure all traders prepare e-wallet facilities at their respective stalls.
“With this effort, we hope more bazaar visitors will make cashless transactions a practice, in addition to making it the main payment method in Selangor,” he said at a press conference after officiating the MBSJ Ramadan Bazaar Carnival 2022, at Dewan Serbaguna MBSJ Puchong Indah earlier today.
Johary added that all traders are also required to display the types of e-wallets that can be used by customers at their respective stalls.
He said MBSJ is working together with its synergy partners to ensure cashless transactions are successful, including Maybank Berhad, AmBank Islamic Berhad, Touch N’ Go, dan the Selangor Digital e-Supply Chain (Seldec).
This year will see 764 traders at 16 Ramadan bazaar locations ply their trade, involving the zones of Subang Jaya, Puchong, Kinrara, Serdang and Seri Kembangan
On November 26 last year, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said Selangor will launch its e-wallet service the following year, to create a cashless community.
He said Selangor e-Wallet Sdn Bhd was formed to ensure cooperation between existing e-wallet companies.
