More Ramadan bazaar sites opened to avoid congestion, risk of infection — MB

KAJANG, March 26 — The local authorities have opened more Ramadan bazaar sites this year to avoid visitors congestion and curb the spread of Covid-19.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the decision was made before the Federal government announced the transition to the endemic phase of Covid-19 on April 1.

“We have already discussed ways to open up several economic sectors including the morning market. We have also set separate entry and exit routes.

“Based on experience, we not only need to add more stalls but also bazaar sites so that people have more options. So that it will not be crowded with visitors,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after a gathering with the Baiturrahman Alam Sari Mosque Committee today.

Yesterday, state executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said a total of 11,967 Ramadan bazaar lots in 238 locations in the state were offered to traders this year.

To date, a total of 9,720 out of 10,783 applications were approved with Selayang Municipal Council recording the highest number at 2,219 followed by Kajang Municipal Council (1,790) and Kuala Langat Municipal Council (1,031).

Amirudin said following the transition to the endemic phase next week, state authorities would continue to monitor the vaccination rate for the people in Selangor as it would help reduce the risk of infection and the number of deaths.

“After this, we will monitor the spread of Covid-19 among students. We are worried because the number of children recipients is low and many have not taken the vaccine,” he said.
