SHAH ALAM, March 22 — The first three months of this year has seen approximately 163,645 job opportunities offered by various sectors in the state, said state executive councillor for socio-economy development V. Ganabatirau.
He said the vacancies encompass the manufacturing, agriculture and construction sectors.
“This number is based on the data from the Social Security Organisation, as of this February,” Ganabatirau said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session yesterday.
He added Selangor’s unemployment rate dropped to 2.9 per cent at the end of last year, compared to 3.6 per cent in the previous quarter.
Citing the Statistics Department’s labour data, the councillor said an estimated 105,300 individuals are still unemployed.
“This indicates a positive downward trend in the state’s unemployment rate,” Ganabatirau said, adding the first quarter’s unemployment data was also predicted for April.
