SHAH ALAM, March 24 — The state government has spent approximately RM450 million to implement various digital programmes, including the Selangor People’s Tutoring Programme (PTRS) and free SIM cards distribution to students, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The amount is part of the RM600 million allocation for the state’s digitalisation agenda from 2020 until 2021.

“The free tutoring programme has benefited over 10,000 students while the free SIM cards have been distributed to over 32,000 students from the total target of 70,000 recipients.

“The free SIM cards also include a year of free data package and recipients can either utilise it for business or learning purposes,” he said at a press conference after witnessing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing for Selangor Digital School (SDS) at the Selangor State Secretariat Building earlier today.

The memorandum was inked by Universiti Selangor (Unisel) president and vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Mohammad Redzuan Othman and The Hive Southeast Asia’s (The Hive SEA) managing director Datuk Syed Haizam Hishamuddin Putra Jamalullail Syed Anwar Jamalullail.

Amirudin added that the digitalisation approach has helped ensure Selangor remains resilient amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

“For instance, in 2020, we managed to record a revenue of RM2.34 billion, surpassing the initial target of RM2.20 billion.

“This proves that digitalisation has cushioned the pandemic’s impact,” he added.

Last year during the tabling of the 2022 Selangor Budget, the state government allocated RM316 million to pursue its digitalisation agenda for this year.
