GOMBAK, March 30 — The Selangor Women’s Welfare and Charity Organisation (Pekawanis) has allocated RM235,000 to 49 state constituencies for back-to-school programmes this year.

Its president Datin Seri Masdiana Muhammad said each constituency contributed RM100 in cash to students from the B40 income group.

“We hope this aid will be able to lighten a little bit of the burden parents face when preparing for equipment for this schooling session.

“Up to 50 recipients in each state constituency are expected to receive this aid. Priority is given to primary school students,” she told SelangorKini.

Masdiana was speaking at the ceremony to present the contributions to 50 students at the Sungai Tua state constituency service centre earlier today.

She added the aid handover is still being continued and Pekawanis will channel the aid to several other constituencies after this.

Asides from schooling assistance, Pekawanis also provided aid to single mothers, senior citizens and disabled persons from the B40 category who celebrated Chinese New Year recently with an RM196,000 allocation for 49 state constituencies.

During the severe floods which struck Selangor at the end of last year, Pekawanis allocated RM107,500 to help victims by providing basic food aid, batik cloth, sarongs, prayer shawls, women’s towels, baby diapers and milk.
