SHAH ALAM, March 14 — Approximately 10,783 homes in Selangor which were affected by the heavy floods in December last year qualify for aid to restoration and rebuilding.
State executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail said as of this February, the victims are located in the districts of Klang, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Kuala Langat.
“The aid encompasses three categories. The first is for minor damages of up to RM5,000, the second is for moderate damages of up to RM15,000, and the third is assistance to rebuild homes worth RM56,000.
“So far 44 homes qualify for rebuilding, and are expected to be completed before Hari Raya Aidilfitri,” she told the media during her ground visit to three such homes in Pulau Indah in Port Klang, and Kampung Baru Hicom in Seksyen 26.
Rodziah added the aid allocation is provided by the Federal government, with the state government functioning as a coordinator to ensure the process runs smoothly.
“The channelling of the funds requires thorough review, so we hope the victims will be patient and provide the appropriate cooperation,” she said.
The extraordinary rainfall from December 17 to December 19 was twice the number of the previous high of 180 ml, which resulted in many locations in Selangor becoming submerged in floodwater.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari estimated the damages to be around RM1.4 billion, which includes the cost of infrastructural repairs at around RM400 million.
