Over 170,000 viewers streamed state CNY virtual celebration this year — Teng

SHAH ALAM, March 16 — The 2022 Selangor Chinese New Year virtual celebration which was broadcasted in February has been met with an overwhelming response, with some 174,000 viewers watching the programme.

State executive councillor for trade and investment Dato’ Teng Chang Khim who is also the Selangor Buddhist and Taoist special committee chairman said the celebration was held online due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

“The state government also launched a contest ‘Kempen Rebut Peluang Menang Angpao’ on social media whereby angpao prizes worth RM10,000 were given to 220 selected winners.

“Allocation for the virtual celebrations came from the state government with no involvement or sponsor from the private sector,” he said when answering a question from Kuala Kubu Baharu state assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong on the Chinese New Year virtual celebration during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly today.

The programme which lasted for over 90 minutes showcased 10 performances that included singing, dancing and cultural performances, by 55 local artists from three generations.

Among the performances include classical festive songs by Chow Kam Leong, Chang Sang Teck (Kumpulan Dua Sekawan) and Lee Elaine, a lion dance by the Hong Jing Lion Dance Association of Selangor, a dance performance by Dua Space Dance Theatre, an acapella performance of festive songs by Colour of Voices and many more.
