KUALA SELANGOR, March 29 — The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) plans to build two low-cost factories next year to help boost the economy, especially among small and medium industries (SMIs) in rural areas in the state.
PKNS chief executive officer Datuk Mahmud Abas said a four-storey factory spanning over 2.02 hectares each would be built in Klang and Kota Puteri, with both capable of accommodating about 200 SMI entrepreneurs and companies.
Mahmud said the two factories costing up to RM15 million would be offered for renting to SMI entrepreneurs and companies at reasonable rates when completed.
He said the low-cost multi-storey factory construction approach has never been implemented before and it is, among others, to fulfil the agency’s social responsibility to help rural SMI entrepreneurs who are operating from home.
“Most of these entrepreneurs, who operate from home, are involved in product manufacturing process.
“These factories will enable the entrepreneurs to have a more comfortable place to operate from, and we will also provide expertise on the use of machines and product packaging, as well as loans,” he told a press conference at the reopening of De Palma Eco Resort here, today.
Bukit Melawati state assemblyman Juwairiya Zulkifili and The Blanket Hotel director Eija Hindon Salleh were present.
De Palma Eco Resort, which has been closed since last October, was reopened under the management of a new operator, The Blanket Hotel Sdn Bhd.
