Selangor Digital School to welcome 200 students in August

SHAH ALAM, March 24 — The Selangor Digital School (SDS) will receive its first 200 students this coming August.

Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping said the number of students for each intake would remain for the first three years, which would later be increased to 400 students.

He said the digital school offers various programmes, including a three-month short-term course, a diploma, and a bachelor’s degree course.

“The study fees range from RM3,500 up to RM35,000, and the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) fund is also provided.

“The application is open to workers who want to sharpen their skills and graduates who want to venture into the digitalisation industry,” he said when met after the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony between Universiti Selangor and The Hive Southeast Asia, here yesterday.

Yong said the SDS would help create more digitally-skilled workers that could fill the gaps in the digital job market.

“Digital economy is expanding rapidly, and the country needs approximately 1.5 million digitally-skilled workers. However, there are about only 50 per cent skilled individuals,” he said.

In the 2022 Selangor Budget, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had announced the establishment of the SDS as a platform for digital and technology learning to fulfil the job market with that sector.

The Dana Penjana Nasional, a matching fund-of-funds programme under the Short-Term Economic Recovery Plan (Penjana), is expected to provide a matching investment with the state government and The Hive.

It also offers teaching staff, building state-of-the-art hybrid learning systems and conducive digital marketing.
