Selangor govt, MBI to explore halal industry opportunities abroad

By Norrasyidah Arshad

SHAH ALAM, March 5 — The Selangor government and its strategic investment arm, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI, will be exploring the halal industry market abroad.

State executive councillor for halal industry Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni said the state has the potential to explore and develop halal products in Europe and Western Asia.

“I have just returned from the United Kingdom to explore the European market, and it turns out that there is space and opportunity for the halal industry to grow.

“We are looking for industry players who are interested in joining us in exploring these new prospects, including in Western Asia such as Saudi Arabia,” he said during the dinner event in conjunction with the Selangor International Halal Conference (Selhac), here last night.

The inaugural programme organised by the Selangor government, in collaboration with Halal International Selangor (HIS), features three components: forums, expos, and business matching.

The event is held from Friday to Sunday from 10am to 9.30pm at the Shah Alam Convention Center, featuring 100 exhibitors from 40 companies from the six clusters — food, pharmacy, beauty, tourism, fashion and halal ingredients.
