SHAH ALAM, March 14 — The state government has allocated RM67 million to develop Selangor’s agricultural sector for five years, from 2021 to 2025.

The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj said the allocation would be utilised to develop the agricultural food sector throughout the state.

“Under the Food Supply Security initiative, the state government has begun to carry out a programme to help establish economic opportunities, especially for youths.

“The programme, known as the Smart Selangor Agro Park (SSAP) Agropreneur Development, will be implemented in the Sabak Bernam, Sepang, Kuala Langat, Kuala Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Selangor districts.

“Through it, the state government is aiming to grow Selangor’s food supply and simultaneously increase the economic resources specifically for youths,” His Royal Highness said in the royal address during the opening of the First Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 14th Selangor State Legislative Assembly, here today.

Sultan Sharafuddin added that the Covid-19 pandemic, which began in 2020, had severely impacted the country and Selangor.

“The agricultural sector also was hit by the pandemic and resulted in the slowdown of many projects, especially the food agriculture sector, thus affecting the food supply.

“I hope the state government will intensify more programmes to help reduce the burden and struggles faced by Selangor farmers, ensure the food supply is secured, as well as increase farmers’ economic resources,” His Royal Highness said.
