KAJANG, March 26 — More than RM2 million has been allocated for the Jom Shopping Aidilfitri initiative to help the underprivileged prepare for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said each recipient will receive a shopping voucher worth RM100 and the distribution process is now being done in stages.
“This year, RM8 million has been set aside for the Jom Shopping programme for all festivals. In conjunction with Aidilfitri this year, each state constituency on average will give out the vouchers to about 300 to 400 individuals.
“The state representatives have already identified the eligible recipients. Usually, the distribution process will be intensified in the last week before the Aidilfitri celebration,” he said.
He said this at a press conference after a gathering with the Baiturrahman Alam Sari Mosque Committee, here today.
The Jom Shopping Raya programme was introduced by the state government and targets low-income groups as a long term initiative to look after the welfare and prosperity of the people.
The aid is provided through community service centres in each respective state constituency, based on race and the upcoming festive period.
