Selangor takes proactive steps to improve revenue collection – Selangor Sultan

By Nasuha Badrul Huzaini

SHAH ALAM, March 14 — The Selangor government continues to take proactive measures to ensure revenue collection in the state further improves, says the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.

The Selangor Ruler said among the steps taken include exploring more resources for sustainable income and recurring income.

“The efforts to make Selangor remain as a liveable state and the top destination choice of investment is continued in the 2022 Selangor Budget, which the Menteri Besar tabled on November 26, last year.

“A total of RM2.323 billion has been approved for the budget including some RM1.220 billion for the management expenditure, and a total of RM1.123 billion was allocated for the development’s expenditure as well as a deficit of RM293 million,” he said in his royal address during the opening of the First Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 14th Selangor State Legislative Assembly official ceremony, today.

Sultan Sharafuddin had also expressed his appreciation to all state governments agencies and departments for showing high commitment to achieve the revenue collection of RM2.278 billion last year.

“For this year, the estimated revenue collection is set at RM2.050 billion, lower than the previous year due to the prolonged Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

Apart from that, Sultan Sharafudin was also pleased with the state government’s initiative in facilitating investors, which would help pave the way for new investment opportunities or expansion of existing investments.

“From January until September 2021, the industrial and investment performance had reported an encouraging achievement with a total of RM5.96 billion in investment value from 182 approved manufacturing projects recorded by the state, which was the highest in Malaysia. It had also created some 12,226 potential job opportunities within the state.

“The achievement was also due to the hosting of the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS), organised by Invest Selangor Berhad,” said the Selangor Ruler in reference to the fifth edition of the state government-backed conference and exhibition.

The physical SIBS 2021 event took place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from December 18 to 21 last year and recorded RM217.6 million in potential negotiated sales, nearly reaching the sales record of the physical event of SIBS in 2019, which was RM247 million.
