Selangor to continue self-awareness campaign on Covid-19 SOPs — Exco

SHAH ALAM, March 16 — The state government will continue to advocate and raise public awareness on complying with the standard operating procedures (SOP) in daily activities despite the country’s transition to the endemic phase on April 1.

State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said Selangor also has no plan to enforce stricter SOPs following the surge of daily Covid-19 cases within the state due to the Omicron variant.

“The enforcement of tighter SOPs in public parks falls under the Federal government’s jurisdiction, not the state administration.

“However, since Ramadan is nearing, the state government through the local authorities will still monitor and control the SOPs for Ramadan bazaars, to prevent the spread of Covid-19,” she said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly today.

Dr Siti Mariah was responding to a query from Seri Kembangan state assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah on Covid-19 SOPs in Selangor.

She added when Malaysia’s borders reopen to international travel, everyone has to be responsible for their own health.

“Apart from mask up and observing physical distancing, we should also inculcate the habit of conducting Covid-19 self-tests whenever needed.

“Try to avoid mass gatherings or crowded places as well,” Dr Siti Mariah said.
