Selangor to launch smart system on road maintenance next week

SHAH ALAM, March 10 — Selangor will launch the Smart Road Asset Management System (SRAMS) system next week to help improve the monitoring, identifying and repair of damaged roads in the state.

The system developed by Selgem Sdn Bhd (Selgem) utilises the use of smart cameras in vehicle dashboards, 360 cameras, drones and Artificial Intelligence (AI) based observation technology.

“Results from the observation and data analysis are integrated with the web which is then transmitted directly to the Selgem control centre which is one of the key elements in SRAMS,” the company said in a statement.

According to the company, the application can be used by various agencies thus creating uniformity of operation for road management in Selangor.

The launch of the system by Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd’s subsidiary is scheduled to be officiated by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari at the Selangor State Secretariat Building on March 16.

Previously, state executive councillor for Infrastructure Izham Hashim said the maintenance costs can reach up to RM1 billion annually and requires the state government to have accurate data, to ensure each work implemented to meet the standards, as well as last longer.

He said SRAMS uses the latest technology such as drones and sensors to monitor, while contractors are obligated to input the data in the software, every time they carry out maintenance works.

The use of smart road asset systems equipped with geographic information software to address road-related issues is among the issue highlighted in the 2022 Selangor Budget.
