Unvaccinated Kafa teachers suspended for students’ safety — MB

SHAH ALAM, March 29 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Department’s (Jais) move to suspend any Fardhu Ain Basic Class (Kafa) teachers who refuse vaccination is for the sake of the public’s interest.

Although Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari admitted the decision was a hard one, it has to be carried out as unvaccinated teachers could increase the risk of Covid-19 infection to other people in school especially students and teachers.

“The decision comes after a long process as the state government has been monitoring this issue sincelast year and we advised Jais to negotiate, discuss and meet with the teachers. This is because vaccination can help to protect ourselves from severe effects.

“However, the teachers still refused to be vaccinated. We can respect their stand but it is a major risk to students and (vaccinated) teachers. Hence, the suspension is for their safety,” he said.

Amirudin was speaking to reporters after witnessing the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony between the Selangor Water Management Authority and several agencies in Shah Alam, today.

The Menteri Besar added all the unvaccinated teachers knew the risk of remaining so, including suspension from work.

“We have held discussions, issued warning letters, made an announcement as well as meeting them face-to-face and explain to them about the risks.

“This is not a hasty decision; instead we have taken a prudent approach to tackle the issue. We must take action to ensure the people’s safety and well-being,” he said.

Yesterday, Jais director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said 57 unvaccinated Kafa teachers have been suspended from work for a two-month period beginning this month.

He said the Kafa teachers who do not complete their two-dose vaccination programme within the next two months can face immediate termination.

Mohd Shahzihan said the step was taken per the decree of the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, who also decreed similar directives for the officers and kadis of mosques who refuse vaccination.
