SHAH ALAM, April 24 — The affordable sale of basic necessities will begin on a wider scale starting tomorrow until May 2 in 29 locations throughout Selangor, said state executive councillor for modernisation and agriculture Izham Hashim.
He said the Jualan Prihatin Rakyat programme in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri will offer goods such as fresh chicken, beef, beef bones, grade B chicken eggs, packets of cooking oil, as well as selayang and mackerel fish.
The initiative is a result of the cooperation between Menteri Besar (Incorporated) or MBI, the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS), the Selangor Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) and Koperasi Warga Hijrah Selangor Berhad (Kohijrah).
“The programme is a continuation of Jualan Prihatin Rakyat which has been organised since February to alleviate the burden of Selangor residents in light of the fact that Aidilfitri will soon be upon us.
“We expect up to 50,000 Selangor residents will benefit from the programme, with each person given a subsidy of RM10 to RM11,” he said.
Speaking to the media at the Section 13 farmers’ market Izham also said RM1.1 million has been spent to realise the programme throughout the week.
“The state government allocation under my portfolio stands at RM800,000 with the remaining RM300,000 provided by MBI,” he said.
The Jualan Prihatin Rakyat programme was launched on February 28 and is held every weekend to cover 64 areas throughout the state as part of the effort to reduce the people’s burden following rising prices.
The programme offers chicken sales priced at RM12 per piece, fresh meat at RM35 per kilogramme, eggs at RM10 per carton, and mackerels and selayang at RM8 per pack.
