Asean Para Games: Malaysia’s participation to be known after Aidilfitri

KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 — The decision on Malaysia’s participation in the 11th Asean Para Games (APG) in Solo (also known as Surakarta), Indonesia will be known after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

This was announced by Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM) president Datuk Seri Megat D Shahriman Zaharudin after talks with the National Sports Council (NSC) recently.

He said that whatever the decision is, the national athletes were fully prepared to shoulder the country’s challenge at the biennial Games scheduled for July 23-30.

“Malaysian athletes are in tiptop shape and always ready for action,” he said when met after the breaking of fast event hosted by him here yesterday.

At the same time, he said the APG would be the best platform to prepare the athletes ahead of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games at the end of July and the Hangzhou Asian Para Games in October.

Previously, Megat D Shahriman had hinted that Malaysia might not send athletes to the APG because of, among others, there being no confirmation from the Indonesian government regarding the hosting of the Games.

Meanwhile, he said that based on the latest development, four countries – namely Brunei, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia – who did not send their participation by name on March 15, have confirmed that they will be competing at the Games.

Elaborating, Megat D Shahriman said 10 sports are set to be contested in Solo.
