Covid-19: New cases below 6,000 mark — Health DG

KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 — The daily Covid-19 cases in the country yesterday recorded a drop of below 6,000, with 5,899 cases, from 6,968 cases the previous day.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the total positive cases recorded yesterday, only 23 cases or 0.39 per cent were in categories three, four and five.

The remaining 5,876 cases or 99.61 per cent were in categories one and two, he said in a statement today.

Of the 23 cases in categories three to five, he said eight cases or 0.14 per cent were in category three, 10 cases (0.17 per cent) in category four and five cases (0.08 per cent) in category five.

Dr Noor Hisham said the total number of recovery cases from Covid-19 recorded yesterday was 8,434 cases, which is higher than the new positive cases recorded.

He said a new cluster of Covid-19 was reported yesterday while the infectivity rate or Rt recorded nationwide was 0.81, with no state recording above 1.0.

On the use of beds in the Intensive Care Units (ICUs), no state recorded usage of more than 50 per cent yesterday.

Dr Noor Hisham said 92 Covid-19 cases required ICU yesterday and 61 cases required respiratory assistance.
