Covid-19: New cases drop to 11,994 — Health DG

KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 — New Covid-19 cases in Malaysia dropped below the 15,000 mark for six consecutive days with 11,994 infections reported yesterday, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

This brings the cumulative number of positive Covid-19 cases to 4,292,585, while 16,603 recoveries were recorded yesterday, raising the total figure for recovered cases to 4,099,786.

“Of the new cases registered yesterday, 541 cases were admitted to hospital, with 217 cases or 40.1 per cent in categories three, four and five while 324 cases or 59.9 per cent were in categories one and two,” he said in a statement today.

On the usage of health facilities dedicated to Covid-19, Dr Noor Hisham said only Selangor recorded bed occupancy exceeding 50 per cent in the intensive care unit (ICU) with 53 per cent as of yesterday.

For bed usage at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC), no states recorded occupancy of more than 50 per cent.

Dr Noor Hisham said the number of Covid-19 patients requiring ventilators dropped to 108, giving a ventilator usage rate of 12 per cent.

The Covid-19 infectivity rate or Rt value for the country dropped from 0.86 to 0.83, with Selangor registering the highest at 0.96 and Kelantan the lowest at 0.65.
