SHAH ALAM, April 7 — The Selangor administration will hold a tour across the state to introduce several of its health initiatives to the public, tentatively scheduled to kick off after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festival.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the programmes include health screening for colorectal cancer, breast cancer, cataract and heart disease.
“During the State Executive Council Meeting (MMKN) yesterday, we have decided on several healthcare programmes to be introduced to the people.
“I believe no other state or government in Southeast Asia has introduced such a comprehensive programme,” he said when delivering his speech during the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) breaking fast programme held at his official residence here, yesterday.
Also present during the programme, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, party vice president Tian Chua, and several other party leaders.
On March 22, state executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud, said the state government would kick off its free health screening programme, Saring Selangor, in stages at all 56 constituencies in May.
She said the free health screening programme would address the issue of non-communicable diseases among the public.
In the 2022 Selangor Budget, the state government allocated some RM6.1 million to treat heart disease, tuberculosis, and the Slim Selangor initiative.
Apart from that, RM1 million was also provided for the public in Selangor to undergo a cancer screening programme, including mammograms, cervix, colorectal and prostate.
