SHAH ALAM, April 27 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has asked residents in the areas under its jurisdiction to ensure their houses and its surroundings are clean before leaving for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday.
Its corporate and public relations division head Shahrin Ahmad said based on previous records, dengue fever cases often increased after festive periods due to unkempt home surroundings.
“MBSA would like to advise Shah Alam residents to keep their houses clean and not leave objects that can hold water including bathtubs, water tanks, ant traps and flower pots that can encourage the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes,” he said in a statement today.
As such Shahrin suggested several preventive measures including removing all used water containers from inside and outside the house, ensuring that water tanks, tubs and flower pots will not become breeding grounds for Aedes larvae and placing Abate larvicide in containers that hold water to kill off Aedes larvae.
“People are also advised to use mosquito repellents when outside the house to prevent infections and seek immediate treatment if they suspect they are infected with dengue,” he said.
Shahrin added that MBSA is serious in tackling dengue and seeks public cooperation to ensure that Shah Alam is free from the outbreak of the disease.
