MBSJ targets stray dogs following rabies-related death

SUBANG JAYA, April 20 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has engaged external services to catch stray dogs following a recent case of rabies infection detected within its area.

Mayor Dato’ Johary Anuar said although only one case was reported, the council viewed it seriously because it had resulted in death.

“A case was reported at SK6/1 Taman Bukit Serdang which involved a 39-year-old man who died on March 10, 2022.

“The capture of stray dogs around the reported area has been implemented by the Veterinary Services Department and specimens have been sent to its laboratory for study,” he said.

Johary was speaking after the council’s full board meeting at MBSJ headquarters here today, adding they have also made a public announcement on the threat of the disease.

As of March, the mayor said his department has received 552 complaints of animal nuisance, 422 of which involved dogs that are largely strays.

“MBSJ staff who will be involved in the operation to catch the stray dogs will be given the rabies vaccine injections soon.

“They have to complete three doses of injections which take about three weeks and during that period we need to outsource the manpower to catch the stray dogs,” he said.
