Over 400 kg of Ramadan bazaars’ leftover food, drinks distributed to the needy

SHAH ALAM, April 24 — A total of 134 kilogrammes (kg) of excess food and 303 kg of unsold drinks from Ramadan bazaars were saved through the MYSaveFood project.

Team Selangor chief secretariat Syahaizel Keman said the food and drinks were distributed to the needy from the B40 group as well as to suraus and mosques.

“This programme, jointly organised with Pertubuhan Pemuda Gema Malaysia, went on for 14 days and ended on April 23 at the Bandar Baru Bangi Section 3 Ramadan Bazaar.

“Its aim is to create awareness among Ramadan bazaar traders on avoiding food wastage,” he said when contacted by SelangorKini.

Syahaizel said food taken from traders was handed over to the target group on the same day.

“We collected it at around 7pm, which is when the traders started closing and usually after breaking the fast, we started distributing it,” he said.
