Pangsapuri Teratai deemed safe to inhabit once more, residents return

SHAH ALAM, April 18 — Residents of Pangsapuri Teratai in Bandar Baru Selayang where a landslide occurred in December last year have since been permitted to return to their respective homes.

Gombak district disaster management committee chairman Nor Azlina Abdul Aziz said although restoration works are still being carried out, 38 residents can now return home.

“The residents involved do not need to worry as our technical department personnel have been monitoring the area and have guaranteed it is safe for habitation.

“During the visit with the technical team on March 29, the order to withdraw the instructions to vacate the homes was issued and came into effect on April 1, hence why residents are allowed back,” she said when contacted by SelangorKini.

Nor Azlina added the repair works on the collapsed cliff, which was caused by heavy rainfall, are expected to be fully completed by April 23.

“Some residents have since returned to their homes, while some have not. We are confident once the works are completed many will return as well,” she said.

Pangsapuri Teratai is one of six locations under the jurisdiction of the Selayang Municipal Council that faced problems of collapsing cliffsides due to heavy rainfall on December 18 last year, which necessitated immediate repairs.

Following this, the state government via the Selangor Bangkit initiative provided RM1,000 in aid to the apartment residents who were forced to vacate their residences.

The affected residents were also given the same amount by the Federal government via the Bantuan Wang Ihsan aid.
