SHAH ALAM, April 27 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj received RM2.35 million in business zakat (tithe) from Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor (KPS) on behalf of the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS).
In a statement today KPS said the Selangor Ruler received the zakat from KPS chairman Datuk Haris Kasim at Istana Bukit Kayangan in Shah Alam.
“The business zakat payment to LZS is one of our efforts in shaping community development throughout the state and it has become part of KPS’s responsibility as a corporate organisation to propel Selangor’s economy through its investment activities.
“Hopefully the zakat contribution can give a positive impact to socio-economic development across Selangor especially towards the asnaf (eligible zakat recipients) group,” he said.
Also present were Selangor Mufti Datuk Anhar Opir, Selangor Islamic Religious Council chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof and KPS chief executive officer cum managing director Ahmad Fariz Hassan.
In addition, KPS hopes the zakat payment can benefit the asnaf groups which have been identified by LZS.
“Through various programmes that have been planned, we hope the zakat will be able to help them eventually leave the asnaf category.
“Since 2017, KPS has paid nearly RM8 million in business zakat to LZS and many asnaf groups have since benefited from the donation,” the statement read.
