Three import players help lift Selangor FC to fifth in Super League

KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 — Goals from three import players successfully lifted Selangor FC to fifth in the Super League after beating Sri Pahang FC 3-1 in the sole Super League match at the Petaling Jaya City Stadium yesterday.

Michael Feichtenbeiner’s charges began aggresively with Muhammad Syahir Basihah’s strike hitting the left goalpost in the 13th minute before Brazillian Herlison Caion de Sousa Ferreira tucked in Quentin Cheng’s cross to open accounts in the 37th minute.

Sri Pahang failed to equalise when Muhammad Nur Azam Abdul Azih’s free kick was punched away by The Red Giants keeper, Khairuazhan Khalid in the 42nd minute.

In the second half, Giliran Hyuri Henrique De Oliveira Costa scored off a long ball from midfield courtesy of Muhammad Mukhairi Ajmal Mahadi, just seven minutes into the second half, putting Selangor in the driver’s seat with 2-0.

Sri Pahang then managed to reduce the deficit in the 62nd minute with a goal by Nur Azam Azih.

Selangor FC then put things beyond contention in the 75th minute, when Jordanian Yazan Al-Arab headed in a corner kick taken by Aelxander Agyarkwa Ameyaw, securing their second win this season after five matches, with a total of eight points.

Selangor’s win means that Sri Pahang has now lost three times, and they remain in ninth place with four points.
