SHAH ALAM, May 28 — A total of 100 laptops and 50 tablets have been and will be distributed to farmers this year, says state executive councillor for agriculture Izham Hashim.

He said the distribution of the gadgets aims to expose the group to digitalisation.

“We provided the facilities in order to increase the digital literacy rate among farmers.

“The assistance will not stop here, as the farmers will join courses to increase their understanding of digitalisation,” he said.

He said this to SelangorKini after launching the Jelajah Agro Selangor roadshow held at Central i-City here, last night.

During the event, he also handed over laptops and tablets to 15 farmers.

The equipment assistance via the Agro Prihatin programme is offered to farmers earning RM2,000 or less a month.

The initiative covers 100 laptops and 50 tablets and can be applied online starting from February 21 to 28.

Meanwhile, Izham encouraged youth and housewives to visit the Jelajah Agro Selangor roadshow at Central i-City which is being held for four days starting yesterday.

He said the event featuring 22 stalls is not just another agricultural exhibition as it offers the group a chance to generate additional income.

“It is similar to the urban agro project in Shah Alam that utilised small spaces to generate high yields, thus enabling youth and women to generate side income.

“In fact, they can even turn this into a full-time career because their city has potential for growing agriculture in buildings similar to the Taman Shamelin project that produces high-quality salads,” he said.

He said exposure and guidance would be given to those interested in venturing into agriculture.

“Ikon Agro Selangor will also be at the roadshow to help by sharing experiences on how they succeeded in their respective fields,” he said.

The state government through the Agricultural Modernisation and Agro-based Industry standing committee has organised the Jelajah Agro Selangor roadshow that started in Central i-City.

The programme that opens from 10am to 10pm will continue in Kuala Selangor, Sabak Bernam and Hulu Selangor.
