Flood situation improves in Hulu Selangor, evacuees at relief centre allowed to return home

SHAH ALAM, May 17 — Twenty-four individuals from six families hit by the floods in Hulu Selangor, who were placed at the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kerling last night, are allowed to return to their homes this evening.

Hulu Selangor District Disaster Management Committee Mohamad Hanafe Basri said this was following the advice given by the Malaysian Civil Defense Force after assessing the improved situation in the affected areas.

“The PPS was closed at 5pm and all evacuees have returned to their homes.

“The floods yesterday were for several hours and had receded at around 7pm. The weather condition was also better today,” he said when contacted by SelangorKini.

The Hulu Selangor district officer said that the cleaning-up process of the affected homes are carried our by volunteers from Team Selangor, Selangor Volunteers (Serve) and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI).

Continuous heavy rain in several districts in Selangor from 12pm yesterday had caused flash floods in several parts of Hulu Selangor.

The affected areas include Kerling, Kampung Kelapa, the intersection infront of Maktab Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) in Kuala Kubu Bharu and Taman Serendah Makmur residential area.
