Foreseeing more open houses, KDEBWM increases garbage collection frequency during Aidilfitri month

SHAH ALAM, May 10 — KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) will increase the frequency of its garbage collection this month to accommodate waste from Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house events.

Its managing director Ramli Mohd Tahir said more focus will be given to residential areas in anticipation of the increase in refuse generated during the Islamic month of Syawal compared to normal days.

“Visits during Hari Raya is expected to result in higher numbers of garbage, plastic, and food waste, which is exemplified by companies and organisations holding open houses.

“Thus KDEBWM will increase its collection frequency because we do not want waste to be left uncollected for too long, as it can cause hygiene problems and generate unpleasant smells,” he told SelangorKini.

Meanwhile, Ramli added that almost 4,000 tonnes of bulk garbage was collected in the last week before Aidilfitri.

“Many residents had replaced their sofas and beds with new furniture in conjunction with Aidilfitri. That is why the amount of bulk waste increased yet we managed to handle it as best as we can,” he said.

A week before Aidilfitri, the state government-owned company offered free bulk garbage collection to society so as to make it easier for residents to dispose of waste such as furniture.
