JobCare fair helps reduce unemployment rate in Selangor

By Zareef Muzammil

SEPANG, May 15 — The fourth series of the JobCare roadshow which took place at Dewan Taman Gemilang, Dengkil here yesterday had attracted 108 job seekers from all over the state.

Selangor Workers’ Empowerment Unit (UPPS) chief coordinator S Vijayan said of the total, 12 participants received offers to work in the manufacturing and logistics sectors while 46 were called for a second interview session.

“The response was very encouraging even though it is the first time the tour has been held in rural areas compared to the previous three series which were in urban areas.

“Most of the participants are unemployed diploma and degree graduates who want to find good jobs for their future,” he told Selangorkini.

He expected between 300 to 400 participants to receive job offers through the 10 series of roadshows held at the district level which started from February 26 to June 25.

Vijayan also hoped that the job fairs would be able to reduce unemployment in Selangor which recorded a rate of 2.9 per cent in the fourth quarter of last year.

“That is why we hold job fairs in every district because otherwise, they will not come to our place. Opportunities should be given to them so that the benefits can be enjoyed together,” he said.

The JobCare roadshow offers 3,000 job opportunities to state citizens with the participation of 15 local companies in various sectors.
