IPOH, May 28 — The second series of the ‘Jom Cuti-Cuti Malaysia’ Roadshow programme has been implemented to promote domestic tourism and boost marketing activities to revive Malaysia’s tourism industry which was severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk Zainuddin Abd Wahab said various discounts, vouchers and rebates involving product operators, travel agencies, hotels, theme parks and transportation companies under the 2022 Tourism Recovery Plan were being offered in line with the country’s transition to the endemic phase.

Apart from Perak as the first location, seven other locations were selected for the programme, AEON Mall Nilai, AEON Mall Bukit Tinggi, Klang; Blue Atrium, Sunway Pyramid; AEON Mall Shah Alam, AEON Mall Kota Bharu, AEON Mall Tebrau City and AEON Mall Bandaraya Melaka and the programme will end in November.

“We hope that with such an exhibition and sales programme, we can further increase the competitiveness of the domestic tourism industry,” he told reporters after launching the programme at AEON Mall Kinta City here today.

Zainuddin said Melaka, Penang, Langkawi, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan and Desaru, Johor were among the most visited destinations by domestic tourists and hotel occupancy rates had risen dramatically.

“Most tourists take the opportunity to visit popular tourist areas because they want to enjoy the offers and discounts given and it is one of the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry’s (Motac) efforts to continue to promote domestic tourism activities,” he said.

The three-day programme, which started yesterday, involved 24 industry players including Sunway Velocity Hotel, Farm In The City, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad and Khaimal Travel and Tours Borneo Sdn Bhd, that will offer various holiday packages at attractive prices.
