KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 — Malaysia Tourism Centre (Matic) here, has been chosen as the venue for the debate between PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak which is scheduled to take place at 9pm on May 12.

Anwar and Najib’s offices in a joint statement today informed that both parties have agreed on the location after a discussion was held between them.

According to the statement the debate would be broadcast live by the official media through television channels and on social media which would be announced later.

“Both parties also hope that the debate will be carried out smoothly next week,” read the statement.

Yesterday, the media reported that initially the debate would be held at the Dewan Tunku Chancellor, University of Malaya here on the same date and time, but the university had rejected the proposal.

PKR communications director Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil on April 17 was reported to have said the format of the debate, which was expected to last for two hours, consisted of three parts, with the first on the problems faced by oil and gas company Sapura Energy Bhd, whether it should be rescued or not.

The second is on ‘Malaysia’s Future’ covering the economy, politics, governance and the country’s direction and the third is the question and answer session,
