MB: Water supply to return in stages starting tonight

By Jerry Choong

SHAH ALAM, May 3 — Consumers in the 472 areas who are facing the unscheduled water disruption due to an odour pollution incident can now expect their water supply to return starting at 9pm tonight in stages, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said water tankers and lorries will still be mobilised to critical areas and localities which have yet to receive water.

“Alternative water sources will be activated to assist consumers,” Amirudin said on Twitter.

Similarly, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd also issued a statement which said the alternative water supply from the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant (WTP) has been activated for areas affected by the shutdown of the Bukit Tampoi WTP.

The Sungai Semenyih WTP resumed its operations earlier at 3.30pm today, with its water treatment process underway.

“Water supply in the affected areas is expected to fully recover by 9am tomorrow. The water supply recovery period differs from one area to another according to the location
of consumers’ premises as well as water pressure of the distribution system,” said Air Selangor’s corporate communication head Elina Baseri.

She added that Air Selangor is making all efforts to minimise the impact of disruption on the affected consumers, advising those in the affected areas to store enough water while waiting for the water supply to fully recover.

“Air Selangor will provide updates progressively from time to time through all mediums. Consumers can also refer to all our official communication channels such as the Air Selangor app, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter or call the Air Selangor Contact Centre at 15300.

Members of the public who wish to make inquiries or file complaints can do so at the Help
Centre via www.airselangor.com and the Air Selangor app.

The unscheduled water disruption occurred when a diesel-like odour was detected at the Jenderam Hilir Raw Water Pump Station, which forced the Sungai Semenyih WTP and the Bukit Tampoi WTP to shut down at 6:15am and 11:30am today, respectively.

This led to five regions under Air Selangor including Petaling (172 areas), Hulu Langat (54 areas), Sepang (196 areas), Putrajaya (23 areas) and Kuala Langat (27 areas) losing their water supply starting at 3pm.
