MB wishes Happy Wesak Day to all Buddhists

SHAH ALAM, May 15 — Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has today wished all Buddhists in the country a Happy Wesak Day.

He said many Buddhists have looked forward to being able to celebrate the festival by visiting Buddhist temples in the morning to pay homage to Gautama Buddha and recite Tisarana as a sign of renewing their commitment to the teachings and example of Buddhism.

“This year’s Wesak Day celebration is a sign of gratitude for our health and family after the struggle with the Covid-19 pandemic for over two years.

“On behalf of the Selangor state government, I wish Happy Wesak Day to the entire Buddhist community in Selangor and Malaysia,” said Amirudin in his Wesak Day wish posted on Facebook today.

Amirudin said the festival is celebrated today to commemorate the birth, enlightenment and death of Gautama Buddha, which is also observed in other countries such as India, Nepal, Mongolia and Tibet.
